It was 8pm.
Nakamura Yuu had just finished his business at the student council.
Apart from the message this morning from Kana, Yuu had not heard from her since.
Though Yuu held the treasury position, his duties was light like his name.¹
But the student council president — that is, the older step-brother of Yuu, always over assigns work to Yuu.
In Yuu’s eyes, that amount of work was well beyond what could be considered work.
Though he had already gotten used to it, Yuu still let out a big sigh.
Thinking of giving Kana a call, Yuu took out his datapad.
「Riiiiing—」
At the same time, a call came from his sister Rin.

— Returning to Kanade —

「I hope you realize… your words holds a lot of weight within this school」

「Hmm? What do you mean?」

Suddenly there were voices outside.
Our eyes were still covered in pitch darkness and we were still bound tightly.
With our other senses gone, our hearing became more acute.
「How did you end up kidnapping XXX!」
「Isn’t that what XXXX-sama said…?」
「You said it was a little kid, how the fuck would I know that it was XXXXXXX! Nevermind…… ….」²
I couldn’t hear the specifics that well, only getting a general idea.

「Clack」 The sound of a key turning. It made the situation tense once more.
I gathered up my nerves and waited for what they would do.

「Nagase!」

I could feel Rin’s voice getting further and further away.

「Nakamu—!」 Before I could finish, the metal door closed with a bang.

I couldn’t hear Rin anymore.

「Relax, I won’t do anything to you. You’ll just have to wait here for the Nakamuras to come find you. Though whether they’ll look for you is another matter.」

I waited a few minutes and it actually seemed like they weren’t going to do anything. They actually started smoking.

「Kidnapping me like this, what do you actually want! And Rin, what did you do to her?!」

「Maa~ It’s only this way that someone can be happy. As for Nakamura Rin, she should be sent home by now I guess?」

「Hah?」

I heard them open up the gate again.

「Well then, byeee. I hope you can be rescued~」

With another bang, the room returned to silence.
What even.
I recalled everything that happened in the last few days.
First it was Rin receiving threatening messages, then it was me inviting her to the cafe, and finally it was us being kidnapped.
But right now it was me still being held here, while Rin was let go and sent home — That is, if he wasn’t lying to me.
What even was the point of this?
「Someone will be happy」, but kidnapping two middle school girls and not doing anything, what even was there to be happy about?
The more I thought about it, the less sense it made.
Ever since I arrived in this world, nothing has gone right.
No one had come by this room in a while now, and everytime I move I can feel something like cobwebs.
I do my best to keep away from those, yet managed to get dust all over myself instead.
I didn’t have dinner yet either, and now I’m hungry.
The only thing I can do now is guess who’s coming to find me.
Recently I really have had no end of disasters.
The familiar sight of my dorm room greeted my eyes when I woke up.
I took a glance at the clock. It was already 12 o’clock
Rin was sitting besides the bed, reading a book that I don’t recognize.³
Probably hearing me move, she closed up her book.

「Ah, Nagase you’re awake」

「Nakamura-san you’re ok! Nothing happened right? They sent you straight back to the school?」

「Ah… yes, that’s right.」 A bit shocked, Rin was unable to say much else.

「Ah speaking of that, how did you find me…」

「The room was right next to the school, and they left your datapad at the doorway. Since you shared your location to Onii-san all we had to do was follow it.」

Yuu huh– it seems that I owe him once again.

「And Yuu?」

「Yuu went to buy bentos. Oh, right, I was the one who changed Nagase out of her clothes.」

「Ah really? Thank you.」 I had been changed into pink pajamas.

「Mmm… that is, I wanted to ask. The scars on Nagase’s back—」

Knock Knock. The knocking of the door interrupted Rin.
Rin stopped talking and went to open the door.
It was Yuu who entered, face furious and carrying bentos.

「Yuu… how did you enter the girl’s dorms?」

「The dorm manager gave me a one day pass. But that’s not important. 」 Yuu slammed the bentos on the table. 「Rin, apologize to Kana.」

「Why do I have to…? I was kidnapped as well!」

「I’m not talking about what happened this afternoon. What happened these past few days, I heard it all from your classmate Tohno-san」 He breathed in. 「Since the day she transferred, Kana couldn’t speak that fluently. Yet it’s her native tongue. Did you ever think why she couldn’t speak normally?!」
「Never using things like sunscreen, yet skin pale like paper, did you ever think about it!? When you changed her clothes, you must’ve seen right? There are scars all over her body! Do you know what kind of house she grew up in?!」
「Yet even so, she grew up to be someone kind and positive– she, she never told me directly, yet was always looking for a way to chat with you! This school was, after all, the first place where she was surrounded by kindness! Yet you lead your entire class and isolated her!」Yuu had hints of tears in his eyes.

「I….」 Nakamura Rin seemed to be recalling everything that happened the last few days, and was biting her lips.
In this quiet yet scary environment, all you could hear Yuu’s anger and Rin’s mumbling.
How long this lasted I didn’t know.
Rin came before me, and bowed deeply.
She sounded like she was crying. 「A-about these past few days… I’m really really sorry!」
