Chapter 8 – Aloe Vera1

Hearing Song Zhe sniggering and walking away from the door, Lin Feng simply raised a middle finger towards him. Truly a terrible friend, eh, not even trying to be friends at this point.

He took a glance at the now small and slender hand.

Though thinking about it, was Liu Meng Qi’s hands this pretty before? He didn’t really pay attention as they grew up. It’s a pity she didn’t go and sell a model of her hands for those jewelry stores. He lay in bed and rubbed at his freezing feet.

His feet clearly had shrunk to size 36 now, and due to going barefoot all this time they were dirty.

After his body shrank, the clothes and shoes he had before didn’t fit. For clothes and pants he could at least forcefully tie them on to the upper body, but for shoes there was no way. The storage room didn’t have a furnace and Lin Feng’s feet were already turning from pale white to red, unable to bear the temperature.

“I don’t even know if junior is still there.” Lin Feng was both expectant and nervous, if he had actually turned into a girl now what kind of face would his mother make?

Looking at his washboard chest, and thinking about Liu Meng Qi’s knockout Ds, Lin Feng thought that at least he didn’t have to deal with those two excess blobs of meat.

With great anxiousness, he reached down for his little junior.

Absolutely wonderful, wonderful to tears, tears of joy, joy to the world, world… world wide smile. 2

His little junior hadn’t left him behind, his mom would be happy to know she can still have a chance to hold a grandson while she lives.3

Picking up some chopsticks and blissfully eating the suddenly extremely delicious dried fish rice meal, and afterwards hugging his tail, Lin Feng happily entered the not long remaining dreamland.

Sunlight streamed through the transparent glass, lighting up the top floor corridor. Birds began to chirp and the clamoring of zombies told the top floor survivors a new day had started.

Lin Feng had a dream, in which he was being stroked. Stroked to the point of shedding fur, spraying fur, even to the point of beginning to doubt his life.

Struggling to open his eyes, the irritating sunlight caused Lin Feng to grab the one size too large clothes and cover himself.

Hmm? Hmm~mm!?!?

“Liu Meng Qi! What are you doing!” Lin Feng suddenly sat up on the folding bed, grabbing his fluffy tail and cradling it in his arms. He glared angrily at the currently joyous Liu Meng Qi.

“Stroking a cat, duh.”

“… More like stroking your sister, no wait stroking yourself. We look the same right now! Fucks sake.”

“Oh, you’re right. Looks like we can’t be brother and sister anymore, only sisters haha. Your chest is smaller so you can be the imouto.” Liu Meng Qi stroking her chin said in a serious manner.

“Feeling rebellious, Imouto?” Lin Feng in the face of the arrogant Liu Meng Qi decided to start grabbing at her white tights.

But this time Liu Meng Qi didn’t slap his hand away, accepting his actions.

“You really need to change your personality, you’re a girl now. How can you still be so perverted.” Grabbing Lin Feng’s tail and stroking softly, Liu Meng Qi said in a sage like manner.

“A girl my ass, I’m a male cat!”

“Eh? N A N I?” Liu Meng Qi’s little face was greatly disappointed.

“Time to eat” Yan Ao Xue said as she pushed the door open, slightly jealous at seeing the two passionately stroking each other.

“Eat?”

“Yep, we found some Aloe plants in the batch that Liu Meng Qi was taking care of. Even though there’s not that many, but it’s enough to at least make some aloe soup. It’s just that there’s no sugar so we could only take some milk candy to improvise. At least it’s still warm food.” 4

Hearing that there was food, Lin Feng’s eyes lit up. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the mutation, but the two packet of biscuits seemed to have been digested super quick. Even with the addition of the food offered by Tan Xin he began to feel hungry again at 5. It seems that he couldn’t use his powers willy nilly anymore, at least before he could get a stable source of food.

He didn’t know if that giant idiot Zhang Yi Cheng was able to eat enough either. It seems that guy was a powerhouse and would also become an apocalyptic big eater. A frightening thought.

Under Liu Meng Qi’s slightly disappointed eyes, Lin Feng tied the loose sports wear on his upper body and walked towards the lounge.

The furnace of the lounge currently had a pot sitting on it. The Aloe soup within was currently bubbling and steaming away.

It was truly lucky that the top floor became a teacher’s rest area. There was a microwave to heat up food, and the headmaster had even charitably given the teachers a pot. Some teachers lived quite far and couldn’t use the accommodations within the school. They had lessons both morning and evening, travelling to and fro was truly bothersome. So the teachers being able to stay here, put on the television eat some warm food and take a nice nap was truly blissful. The headmaster had even put a time card machine here in preparation for holding all future meetings in this room.

A few of the students had taken one time use bowls and utensils, happily drinking the aloe soup and praising Yan Ao Xue’s culinary skills.

There was nothing that could compare to having a nice warm meal after a day of scares.

“Have a taste.” said Yan Ao Xue as she placed a bowl of soup in front of Lin Feng.

“You’re not really an ojou-sama are you, seeing as you can actually cook.” Lin Feng said as he took the bowl of soup, slightly surprised by the Yan Ojou-sama.

“Your being prejudiced. Definitely prejudiced. Even though my family hires a lot of people, and cooking my meals wasn’t something I needed to do, everyone has the right to a hobby. I do think that cooking would be mine.” Yan Ao Xue replied with her defining smile, indicating for Lin Feng to taste it.

Lin Feng stuck out his tongue slightly, preparing to lap at the soup.

Just as the tongue was about to meet the surface of the soup, Lin Feng suddenly froze. His cat instincts told him that if he continued it would definitely cause a burn.

Slightly confused by this he used his hands to feel the sides of the bowl. It wasn’t too hot to cause a burn, and the soup was rapidly cooling. His human experience told him that the soup in his hands was at the right temperature already.

“What’s wrong?” Yan Ao Xue was slightly worried as she saw Lin Feng’s still frozen tongue inches away from the soup and his hesitation.

“Animals usually won’t eat or drink something that is hotter than their own body temperature.” Old Man Liu chuckled as he pointed towards Zhang Yi Cheng.

Zhang Yi Cheng was sitting listlessly besides Tan Xin, only opening his mouth once she had blown on the soup to cool it down.

“Every animal is scared of having their tongues burnt, it’s just that compared to other animals humans are more used to eating high temperature and cooked foods. Other animals aren’t like humans, able to cook things. So they usually eat lukewarm and room temperature foods. You must have inherited the same cautious nature of a cat towards hot food.” Old Man Liu smiled as he explained.

“Oh, do you need your big sis here to help you blow on it?” Liu Meng Qi grinned in satisfaction as she saw the hesitating Lin Feng.

“No it’s fine Imouto. I’m not like someone who has lost their sophistication.” Saying that as he glanced at Zhang Yi Cheng, Lin Feng drank down the soup in one gulp. What happened last night was still fresh in his mind, and even now he had a slight ache in his abdomen.

Zhang Yi Cheng didn’t react at all, instead it was Tan Xin who nodded while slightly embarrassed.

“It’s disgusting, the fuck is this?” A discontent voice and sounds of something being spilled came from outside the room, along with the sounds of a plastic bowl being crushed.

Zhu Han Fang had thrown the one use bowl on the ground and walked off towards the staircase.

The crowd of dismembered zombies downstairs seeing a fresh piece of meat like Zhu Han Fang began to frantically claw and let out howls.

Zhu Han Fang picked up a club and smashed a zombie’s head in. Following the complete cave in of the head, the zombie stopped moving. Seeing this Zhu Han Fang let out an unrestrained smile.

“Oi” Liu Meng Qi slightly displeased wanted to say something, but was stopped by Lin Feng.

“Why did you stop me? This guy can do such immoral acts, those downstairs are our students” Ever since Liu Meng Qi had that argument with Zhu Han Fang, whatever he did would set her off.

The fact that after Lin Feng had turned into a cat girl Zhu Han Fang had injured him just added fuel to the fire.

Lin Feng only shook his head, unable to really explain. Even though Zhu Han Fang was currently doing unsuitable things they were still logical. Firstly he was killing off zombies and boosting everyone’s morale. Especially since before where everyone was avoiding the zombies, gaining some experience at fighting them was just as essential.

“Oi, if the nation managed to develop a cure, then Zhu Han Fang is currently commiting murder.” Liu Meng Qi was still slightly annoyed as she saw Zhu Han Fang happily and effectively smashing apart zombies.

“No, even if a cure was developed I don’t think those infected who have their guts spilling out would be saved. Besides, the worst thing to happen right now is if there’s conflict within the group. Most of the zombie movies I’ve seen the reason a stronghold collapses is because of internal strife. Unless Zhu Han Fang goes way beyond, I think it’s best to make compromises for now.” Lin Feng explained as he finished off a second bowl of soup Yan Ao Xue had handed over. Though, Zhu Han Fang shouldn’t be doing something like this while everyone was eating.

Hurk

As expected, one of the onlookers began to throw up. The other students also seemed very put off.

Because it wasn’t too far into the infection, most of the students downstairs still had normal looking skin. It was only the blood that streamed out of them that was black and dead, and their brains were like black rotten mush.

“Oi, go fight after we finish eating!” Liu Tao said as he walked up to Zhu Han Fang, smacking the back of his arms.

Zhu Han Fang was still in the high of fighting, and turned back without speaking. Looking up at Liu Tao who towered over him, he gave a cold huff before spitting down at the zombies and turning to go back to his corner, most likely gazing at the scenery.

“Bastard of a bully.”5 Seeing Zhu Han Fang retreating to the corner, Liu Meng Qi flipped the bird and pulled down her eyelids at him.

“Meng Qi do you want another bowl as well?”

“No need I’ve lost my appetite.” She returned the bowl to Yan Ao Xue and settled down besides Lin Feng, and as if nothing had happened started hugging Lin Feng’s tail.

Even though the bowls were one time use ones, because no one knew how long they might be stuck up here for the bowls were to be cleaned and reused.

“Liu Meng Qi can you stop grabbing my tail? It feels weird.” Lin Feng controlled his fluffy tail and had it pull away from the lap of Liu Meng Qi where it started to swish from side to side.

“In such a rough and callous time only this tail can bring me some warmth.” Liu Meng Qi grabbed the still swishing tail and pulled it back into her embrace, unwilling to let go.

Yan Ao Xue had finished cleaning up the utensils, grabbed a box of Wu Zi chess6 and sat down in front of Lin Feng.

“Um Lin Feng, want to play a game of Wu Zi chess with me?”

A double release! I think here’s a good pausing point, or maybe one extra chapter more. I’ll be going back to working on GBLINC for a bit.

The novel will still mainly focus on the student’s survival in the school for well up to chapter 88 ish, so if you’re enjoying what’s happening now then stay tuned for more. Some new characters will be coming along soon as well, and I guess it could be considered the second arc of the school survival.

Also after using google translate for the first time on a chapter as like a cheat code I realize I really need an editor. Sometimes the equivalent english word escapes me and then when I use google-sama I go “ah that translation sounds so much better”. But at least I can do meme speak better than google-sama, so HA. Also google-sama seems to like incest. See here:

Google-sama TL: “Well, it makes sense. It seems that our brothers and sisters will not be able to do it in the future, at most we will be sisters, haha, if you are young, just feel more serious.” Liu Mengqi touched her chin and said solemnly.

TN 1: I swear the title is a pun, Aloe in chinese is a homophone of Stroking/petting

TN2: Think Shiritori except with phrases. It’s supposed to be four character combinations (think chinese idioms) where the beginning of the next phrase needs to match the ending character of the previous phrase.

TN3: Some extra context, In Chinese culture it’s the boy’s family side who are more expectant towards grandchildren, especially grandsons. This is due to the concept that marriage of a girl is “marrying out” of the family, and so the girl’s family have a lesser claim on the grandchildren (unless the girl’s status is higher in which the boy takes the girl’s surname, but that’s usually rare and it’s more the boy is adopted into the family first. It causes no end of family drama with his parents though) There are biases such as the girl’s side being called outer grandma/pa Wai Po/Gong in the south of China. In the north of China they have a less biased term Lao Lao/Ye. This isn’t to say that the grandparents love the children any more or less than the inlaws, it’s just that this concept is stressed much more in chinese than perhaps in english where there’s only Grandma and Grandpa, no specific relations to which side of the family unless specified. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

TN4: In China they can’t stand cold foods like onigiri, salads and sandwiches, or at least it doesn’t feel like a decent meal.

TN5: Original is Chinese idiom Eating soft scared of hard which is basically bully mentality

TN6: It’s a chess kinda like connect four and Go except it’s connect five played like Go on a 15×15 board rather than 19×19. Basically grown up connect 4 where the goal is to connect as many 5s or more as you can? Idk the rules that well.
