Chapter 7 – Being ♂ A ♂ Bro
“Excellent, I’m glad to see you all still alive. I wish to inform every member of our school that the only way to kill these zombies is to destroy their brain. Before they’ve been killed do not let down your guard, they will still try to move even if they’ve lost half their body as long as their mind remains intact. This is a fatal infection, mainly transmitted through blood contact. Please ensure that the students around you are healthy.”
“However! A few special infected members are still members of our school, they still retain sanity and zombies will still go after them, so please do not blindly attack them.”
“Finally about those spiders, right now within the school grounds there are quite a few large spiders. The spiders and zombies seem to ignore each other, however, no need to panic as the spiders though corrosive as long as you have a source of fire they will stay far away. So students please ensure you have flammables or a lighter on you at all times, in emergencies using your phone batteries as a lighter. You can turn a phone battery into a makeshift lighter by taking it out, separating the positive and negative anodes and using them to run a current to heat up wires to the point of burning. Right now the spiders have eaten their fill and don’t seem to be attacking any more. Everyone please avoid the swimming pool area, as that is where the spiders are resting.”
“Finally, I hope that everyone can cooperate to overcome humanity’s sudden catastrophe. The school backup generators can still operate for two to three months so don’t worry. I will turn on the generators every afternoon from 2 to 4pm. I wish everyone the best of luck as we await rescue.”
The headmaster’s voice slowly petered out.
Everyone had a rather uneasy look, and the odd thing was that no one was complaining that the headmaster’s address was boring.
Though everyone was celebrating that there were people who managed to survive in the school, it was regretful that in a school of tens of thousands only so few managed to survive. Definitely not more than a thousand. This disaster was on an unprecedented level. Thinking about it differently, within the school itself there would be at least ten thousand zombies starving and roaming. Lin Feng felt an icy numbness running down his back.
“Everyone let’s all go back to sleep. I’m sure you all heard what the headmaster said just then. Lin Feng isn’t dangerous, sleeping separately is just an extra precaution. Song Zhe go sleep on the sofa even though it’s not that comfortable.” Old Man Liu said to the crowd as he put down his torch, sighing.
“Alright Mr. Liu.” Song Zhe gave a glance at Lin Feng as he walked to the rest room.
Lin Feng looked at the crowd who was staring at him before turning back to the storage room. Some things the more you tried to explain the harder it was, only time would be able to fix it.
Returning to his room he lay on the bed sideways, hugging his fluffy tail and thought about what the headmaster had said.
“Zhang Yi Cheng?” Lin Feng suddenly thought about him. That guy couldn’t handle what his new form was and ran away. After hearing what the headmaster had said, those zombies would also attack people who transformed, then Zhang Yi Cheng was in danger! And he didn’t know where Zhang Yi Cheng was hiding right now.
Though that guy seemed to have acquired the genes of a frog, powerful jumping abilities. Normal zombies shouldn’t be able to catch him. Though Lin Feng seemed to have heard that frogs had bad eyesight, something like natural born nearsightedness? Whether frogs could only see motion was something Lin Feng was unable to verify.
Probably.
Knock Knock
Someone was at the door.
Tan Xin?
In front of him was Tan Xin wearing a long sleeved white cardigan, with a black and white bag on her shoulder.
Tan Xin was Zhang Yi Cheng’s girlfriend. Zhang Yi Cheng being bitten on the staircase was also because of Tan Xin. They were the couple everyone in the class was envious of. They were inseparable like peas in a pod, Zhang Yi Cheng’s family ran a restaurant and Tan Xin’s family operated a refrigeration business. The families due to the two were able to make a killing in their respective businesses.
Even the teachers eventually had to accept their relationship, since even though they were dating their grades didn’t suffer. Rather, their grades showed rapid improvement.
“Why are you here? Come inside quickly.” Even though Lin Feng asked that, in his heart he had an idea of why Tan Xin was here. He still acted politely and invited her in.
“No need, I…” Tan Xin took a look around to see if anyone was around before bending down.
Lin Feng seeing her about to prostrate herself, moved forwards and grabbed her arms. She looked at him disbelievingly.
“What are you doing.”
“Please, please save Yi Cheng. It was my fault, all my fault. If only I had acted like Liu Meng Qi when Yi Cheng first turned, standing by his side with him. But I felt afraid, and I even ended up hiding behind the teacher.”
Seeing the self loathing and non stop crying Tan Xin, Lin Feng let out a sigh.
If it wasn’t for Liu Meng Qi straight up hugging him, maybe he too would have decided to run. After all the expression on everyone’s faces. It stung.
“You want me to go save him?”
“No, nothing that dangerous. It was my fault I wont ask for someone else to sacrifice themselves for this. I’m just rather dumb and I can’t think of how to contact him, so I was hoping you would have an idea.” Tan Xin hurriedly assured.
“His phone?”
Tan Xin shook her head and took out a masculine styled phone.
Lin Feng thought for a bit.
“Mm, I have two ideas. First is call the headmaster, let him make an announcement. The second is to take some fire and go to the pool to look for him.”
“The pool?”
“Yeah, though it’s not something I should say, your boyfriend- I mean that frog, if I didn’t guess wrong is probably able to eat spiders.”
Lin Feng, seeing Tan Xin’s bitter melon face, slightly regretted saying that.
“Haha… probably not. Nope. Maybe us transformed still eat the same things as we did before.” He awkwardly said as he saw Tan Xin’s expression turn worse and worse.
Suddenly Lin Feng smelled something extremely delicious, unable to control himself as he stared at Tan Xin who was reaching inside of her bag.
“Um, this is my boxed meal. I don’t have anything else to give you, only whatever I have in this bag as I escaped. So…. I know that right now food is rather precious. And what you said earlier about eating… whatever, I love that man. He only changed because of me, I wasn’t thinking clearly at the time so I want to make it up.”
Lin Feng’s entire focus was on the fragrant smelling box in her hands, lights flashing within his head. What was wrong with him?
But he was unable to resist and grasped the box in both hands, slowly opening it.
My god!
Dried fish and frog meat, he had almost forgotten that that the couple were in the restaurant business.
Swallowing his saliva, he resisted and closed the box.
“No no no no, I can’t accept a big gift like this. Right now it’s trying times, food like this is invaluable.” Lin Feng declined politely as he pushed the box back into Tan Xin’s hands.
“Just take it, I want to thank you for coming up with ideas. I’ll give the headmaster a call.” Saying that Tan Xin took out her own phone and looked for the number.
“No nonono, it’s just that you were panicking so you couldn’t think of something simple like this, I’m not as involved so I could think of it.”
“Oh just take it, even if I kept it I couldn’t think of eating it right now.”
Lin Feng thought of the crispy yet tender frog meat within, suddenly understanding. After all, the stuff inside this meal box is the same as her boyfriend, it wasn’t exactly appetizing. Well you can’t waste food so~ After all there was a saying, waste not want not. 1
“Then there’s no need for me to be so polite, haha. Hmm? It seems like you won’t have to call the headmaster.” Lin Feng said as he stared at a rather tall tree in the distance. He chuckled, inwardly marveling at the power of love.
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
“Your boyfriend is protecting you from a distance. Even though you rejected him, he’s still waiting there.”
Lin Feng pointed at the tree in the distance. His new night vision as well as overall enhanced vision gave him a clear sight of Zhang Yi Cheng standing on the tree.
Tan Xin stared at the darkness in confusion, before looking back at Lin Feng and starting to speak.
Suddenly Zhang Yi Cheng who had been standing on the first floor suddenly gave a bloody smile, leaping forth with his powerful legs and with frightening speed approaching the 6th floor.
“See your boyfriend is coming, right now, PWEH“
Before he could finish, Lin Feng went flying as Zhang Yi Cheng slapped him.
“I need to protect her, she’s mine don’t touch. I need to protect her, she’s mine don’t touch.” Zhang Yi Cheng repeated these two phrases over and over, nudging Tan Xin behind himself and staring at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng slid off the slightly cracked wall, the dried fish in his hands scattered about the floor.
“I… fuck’s sake, Zhang… Yi Cheng are you mad? I was just talking to her what do you think you’re doing?” Wiping off a bit of blood from the corner of his mouth, Lin Feng asked in confusion.
Tan Xin suddenly leapt forth and hugged the tense Zhang Yi Cheng. He seemed to calm down slightly, and didn’t strike out again at Lin Feng.
“Oi, Zhang Yi Cheng speak. I’m nya-t done with you yet fucker.”2 Lin Feng said while standing up, reaching out to slap Zhang Yi Cheng’s arm. Seeing that, Zhang Yi Cheng seemingly losing all reason and seeing Lin Feng approach pointed his arms at Lin Feng, prepared to begin attacking once more.
Seeing Zhang Yi Cheng acting strangely, Lin Feng decided to not go any closer.
“Oi, Tan Xin can you explain to him? I think this idiot being bitten by a zombie is messed up in the head. Why’d he attack me?”
“Mm” Tan Xin took off her clothes and with a red face wrapped it around Zhang Yi Cheng’s waist. She lead the glistening Zhang Yi Cheng out of the room.
Zhang Yi Cheng obediently followed Tan Xin, eyes dead without a hint of consciousness.
Song Zhe glancing at the retreating form of the two cautiously meandered over to the storeroom door, yet strangely Zhang Yi Cheng didn’t seem to even care about Song Zhe.
“What the heck was that.” Song Zhe asked incredulously, asking in place of the rest of the class as to why there was a disturbance again.
“Nothing, just that idiot Zhang Yi Cheng returning is all.” Lin Feng rather sullenly replied as he fell in bed, his own temper flaring up at being suddenly hit out of nowhere. That asshole actually had a mean hook, even now his stomach ached. Lin Feng could only hug at his abdomen.
“Alright, though, bro I do have a question.”
“What.”
“Are you a girl now?”
“Piss off.” Lin Feng took some cardboard from the side and threw it hitting the top of Song Zhe’s head, before walking to the door and shutting it.
“Oi, you know being a bro you should let your bro get some. Bruh I’m still a virgin! Especially now that we’re stuck in a situation like this, I don’t want to die before…”
“Oh piss off already, why are you focusing on this of all things!?”
