Even After Turning Into a Trap Cat Girl I’ll Have to Work Hard to Survive in the End of the World.

Chapter 5 – Cat Girl Mutation! — (New Humans: 0 Zombies: 1 Mutated: 1)

“The food is here, everyone take a bottle of water and two packets of biscuits. That’s today’s rations. Everyone should try to remain at a low activity level as we await rescue; even though we have quite some food in storage there’s a lot of us here.” Old Man Liu had taken out whatever food and bottled water he could find and put it into the lounge near the wall to hand out.

“Oh right, where’s group 5 & 6?” Old Man Liu turned to ask a more mature looking student part of group 3 & 4’s newly arrived 8 people.

“They… they said they’re not coming, and the classroom feels safer.”

“What!? Are they crazy? Someone call one of the students downstairs and let me talk to them.” Old Man Liu said to the crowd.

The last group was primarily made up of female students, and it was also them who asked to stay in the classroom to await rescue.

Yan Ao Xue took out her cell phone and handed it over, already having called one of the remaining students.

“Hello? Chen Lin Lin? Hurry and come here, we’re only waiting on you now- What!? Run! Hurry!” Old Man Liu could only stare at the phone in his hand in disbelief as the line busy tone, his face slowly turning ashen.

“What happened sir?” Yan Ao Xue walking to recieve her phone back noticed Old Man Liu’s palor.

“Group 5 and 6 gone.” He didn’t say much else as he announced their fate to the group.

Yan Ao Xue could guess at what had happened, and her expression also took a turn for the worse.

Lin Feng after settling Cheng De in walked back to the lounge.

He took this time to take a look at the surroundings on this floor. This floor had three rooms and a staircase, the three rooms were a resting area where a few simple beds and a sofa sat, mostly for teachers to rest during their breaks.

On the left was a storage room, the room was most likely used for edibles and other miscelaneous items, inside were a mix of food stuffs and documents.

In the middle, which is also to say directly linked to the staircase, was a room best described as a lounge and display area, the walls already had a row of nails hammered in, most likely in preparation for things to be hung from them.

The staircase leading into the lounge was an olden style staircase, but because the headmaster felt that it clashed with the intended display area, which was expected due to the area originally being a storage room, decided to modify the stairs. It was as such that the stairs were out of service, and coincidentally able to form a natural zombie barrier.

Lin Feng grabbed his rations, two packets of filling biscuits1 and a small bottle of mineral water, and sat on some cardboard besides Liu Meng Qi to eat together.

“Aren’t you scared?” Liu Meng Qi asked while nibbling on her own biscuits as she saw Lin Feng settle in besides her.

“Yeah, of course I am. Though, you know me, loved horror films since I was little. Ah right, did you watch the supreme special super ultra VIP cut for that short horror movie [Arret Pipi] I gave you?” 2

“No, oh why are you like this. Every holiday or my birthday you would give me a set of horror films to watch, the important thing is why don’t your parents ever yell at you for this?” the slightly more relaxed Liu Meng Qi complained.

“Oi that was something really rare, I had to ask a foreigner to help me get that movie and then I personally translated it. I spent a lot of time and I’m serious about it.” Lin Feng said as he munched on the biscuits, then realizing that it was Matcha flavoured he reached out to snatch Liu Meng Qi’s.

Liu Meng Qi slapped his hand away, yet Lin Feng had already started to reach down to caress her white thigh highs.

She unceremoniously handed over her lemon flavoured biscuits.

“What the heck, even now you can’t be more serious. If you really like me so much how about you marry me already.” she said half jokingly while sharing her inner thoughts to Lin Feng.

“Imouto3, stop joking around. Don’t you know if I did that I’d be sent for bone surgery?”

“Bone, schmone, we’re not actually brother and sister remember?”

“Oi, look at that.”

The two were interrupted by a male student pointing at Zhang Yi Cheng.

They saw the recently bitten Zhang Yi stat to spasm, and more and more people started to notice. Everyone who was currently eating all turned to the direction the student pointed at.

Because Zhang Yi Cheng was bitten near the head, he wasn’t able to be treated with amputation like Cheng De was. A few of his acquaintences could only tie him up with a rope found in the storage.

His girlfriend Tan Xin was sitting nearby with biscuit and water in hand, looking on without comprehension at the slowly mutating boyfriend.

Zhang Yi Cheng wasn’t changing like the class rep, instead he slowly grew more and more freckles on his face, and skin slowly turning green and glossy. The muscles on his limbs also expanded, and due to his glossy skin the rope binding him began to slide off.

This kind of transformation was much more horrifying, at least zombies were still human shaped.

Old Man Liu directed everyone to get back, and he took up the fire axe in his hands as he stared down at Zhang Yi Cheng.

“Hmm? Sir?”

The now monster Zhang Yi Cheng was confused as he saw everyone crowded around.

“Student Zhang Yi Cheng, you… what have you turned into?” Old Man Liu grasped his fire axe as he questioned the monster in front of him.

“Turned into? Did I become a zombie? Wait no sir I’m still able to think, why are you all scared of me?”

Old Man Liu rubbed his forehead, and asked a nearby girl for a pocket mirror. Following the smooth floor he nudged the mirror over to the feet of Zhang Yi Cheng, but he never let go of the axe in his hands.

Zhang Yi Cheng picked up the mirror with trepidation.

“Monster! I…” With slightly shaking hands, he set down the mirror and turned to the crowd.

“Tan Xin, I… I don’t know why I’ve become like this, I thought I would… become a zombie.” Seeing his girlfriend acting afraid and cowering behind the teacher, Zhang Yi Cheng was at a loss for words.

He sat still for a while, unable to speak and simply staring at the frightened crowd. A few tears began to stream down from his now bulging eyes, and in a moment of rashness, ran past the frozen crowd and jumped off the roof.

Seeing the monster disappear, the crowd finally breathed once more. Except for Tan Xin who was crying without end.

“Why was it like this” Yan Ao Xue said with melancholy as she saw Zhang Yi Cheng depart.

Zhang Yi Cheng should have become a zombie due to being bitten by one, so why did he mutate instead of being infected?

“Who knows, might be because he was a toad hahaha. I heard his family sells frogs, maybe he ate too many of them and got his due karma haa” Zhu Han Fang declared happily as he finished off his biscuits.

“His family sells frogs?” Yan Ao Xue asked as she touched her pale chin, thinking about it.

“Everyone go back to what they were doing, tonight the male students will take shifts guarding the stairwell. Even though zombies can’t get up here but the spiders might, so everyone needs to be careful.”

Old Man Liu called for the crowd to disperse, and didn’t mention a word of Zhang Yi Cheng. Right now he didn’t know what the world was coming to, and so Old Man Liu didn’t decide on how to treat Zhang Yi Cheng. At least right now Zhang Yi Cheng seemed to still retain some sanity.

There were 21 people here, the vanguard group of 3 males and a female. The second group had two casualties, with 9 making it up here. The third group all managed to arrive safely with eight members, and the last group had no one surviving. No one in the group could be contacted, whether by mail or by WeChat.

Because the beds are limited, it’ll be two people to a folding bed. Tonight before bed everyone should take the time to call their families while the phones in your hands still have power and a signal. Be sure to save as much power as you can, as they may be our last hope for rescue.” Old Man Liu proceeded to take out the folding beds and a thin sheet. Recently the weather had been on the warm side, but if it turned chilly everyone would have to huddle around the furnace.

Lin Feng obviously decided to pair up with Song Zhe for a bed, the two would also be able to easily switch shifts at night.

Liu Meng Qi reluctantly paired up with Yan Ao Xue, reason being her friend Ruo Lian in sympathy had paired up with the non stop crying Tan Xin. Liu Meng Qi didn’t have that many friends, even though she looked rather cute. But due to spending every day around Lin Feng and Song Zhe she ended up with only Ruo Lian as a true friend.

Zhu Han Fang ended up sharing a bed with the giant of a man Liu Tao. The two fearsome looking males sleeping together caused quite a stir with a specific part of the female crowd; of course the two not knowing about it was another matter.

Lin Feng took his phone and nervously called his home.

“Hello?”

“Hello? Mom how’s the situation at home?” Hearing her voice on the phone, Lin Feng let out a breath of relief. If something had happened to his parents he really wouldn’t know what to do with himself.

“Mm, everything is fine at home. Your dad is fine, just the entire compound has lost power. How are you my dear? Where are you? Are you safe?” Even her voice contained traces of her fear and worry.

“Mom don’t worry, we’ve managed to group up at the school. Our class is currently on the roof in a safe place, the teacher is also here. We have enough food and water to last for now.”

“Oh, really? Be a good boy ok? Make sure to be nice to your teacher and make sure to take care of Meng Meng. You two grew up together, don’t you dare throw her to the side ok?”

“Yeah ok Mom don’t worry, I’ll make sure to take care of her. You need to be careful at home, don’t go outside. I think there’s still quite a bit of rice at home, you should be able to last for a bit. Afterwards we’ll see.” Lin Feng replied as he took a glance at Liu Meng Qi who was tidying up his bed for him.

“Ok I’m going to hang up now, I don’t have much power left. Mom is going to make sure to keep in contact, Feng Feng make sure to be careful ok? And follow the teacher.”

After hanging up, Lin Feng felt a rush to the head. His mom just went on and on. Though thinking about it, his father was very strong. Her safety shouldn’t be an issue.

“Checked in with your family?” Lin Feng asked as he walked to Liu Meng Qi who was lying on the bed, propping her head up with her hands.

“Yeah. Your parents and mine are currently talking to each other across from the balconies. Though I’m not sure if there’s enough food at home to last.” Liu Meng Qi seemed to deflate as she said that.

“Don’t think about such things, there’s nothing we can really do anyway. Though there is the saying the older the ginger is the spicier it is, so they’ll be fine.”

The university they attended wasn’t too far from home, only a good ten plus kilometres. It was still within the same city after all, just that one was in the south side and one in the north.

“Mm” Browsing the news for a bit and finding nothing interesting, Liu Meng Qi shut off her phone to conserve power. Even though the building still had power, very few people had chargers and so it was best to save power whenever possible. Liu Meng Qi’s contact and Lin Feng’s contacts was pretty much the same, so they would be fine with only one of their phones.

As the night drew near and the sun settled beneath the horizon, the crowd turned on the furnace and settled in to sleep. It was currently autumn, with the temperature fluctuating. Even though it wasn’t particularly cold today but the warm light of the furnace gave people similar warm and fuzzy feelings.

“It’s your turn.” Lin Feng was shaken, his body crawling out of sleep as he let out a yawn.

“It’s already 1 am?”

Not hearing a reply, he turned to see his unreliable friend already snoozing away on the folding bed.

“Ah what the hell, and you call yourself a university student? It’s only 1 am and you’re already dead like a log.”

He let out a series of yawns. The lounge luckily still had access to water and electricity. Even though it was only the resting area that had access, but at least even after everyone finished the bottled water there was still fresh water available to drink. (Tap water is not recommended for direct consumption in China. There aren’t any diseases but you can’t trust that the pipes aren’t rusted.)

Walking into the bathroom basin while yawning, Lin Feng splashed some cold water on his face.

Twitch

A sudden pain in his arm made Lin Feng suddenly even more awake.

He took a look at his arm.

The cat scratch had already healed, yet there was still pain coming from there. As well as a sensation of being very hot.

“You awake?” Just as Lin Feng was examining his arm, a voice called over to him.

“Liu Tao? You got the second night shift too?” Seeing the recently woken up Liu Tao, Lin Feng made an effort to pull down his sleeve and cover his arm.

“Yeah. Goddamn spiders and zombies. Can’t get a good rest. Hmm? Lin Feng your eyes…! Oh shit a monster!”

And so the part we’ve been all waiting for (or at least I’ve been waiting for) is here! What will Lin Feng do next?! How will his friends react? And most important of all, is he going to be cute?! (Spoilers: Yes.)

I’m not sure how other CN WN translators work with titles like Teacher, Kouhais, Senpais (specifically gendered ones) and even Student. English doesn’t really have that, so I try to be more formal but it can be confusing and messy. Let me know if you’ve seen a particularly clever way that another translator has used; I find it awkward whenever I have to use Student Lin Feng etc. Also pet names and whatnot.

TN 1: 6 + 3 brand, kind of like oreos mixed with kitkats.

TN 2: You can find the original French short film here called Arret Pipi. It’s pretty decent horror film even though it’s jumpscare based. Lin Feng has good taste. mirror for those who have it blocked.

TN 3: Imouto meaning sister. I’m going to keep Japanese borrowed phrases whenever I see them, in this case it’s imouto phonetically spelled out with Chinese. It’s why Ojou-sama is used in this story as well.

  1. Imouto means “younger girl of the same generation” and informally translate to “younger sister”.
In Chinese, it also means [I or You] fucked your little sister.
